That’s why when you’re approved for a loan you’ll be able to access our range of ongoing business support and mentoring services – whether that’s a quick call for some advice, finding out about relevant events, accessing discounted services from partner organisations, or somebody to run an idea past and brainstorm with.
If you need more specialist support we’ll also provide you with assistance and guidance on finding and approaching a mentor.
Our ongoing business support services are available to Start Up Loan recipients in England and Scotland.

Tony Couch benefits from a wide range of business and management experience gained across the UK and Europe including financial services, hospitality, consultancy and business development. He is particularly interested in quality and compliance, marketing, business planning, cashflow development and operational effectiveness.
Angela Sterling is an entrepreneur and the Director of Lingotot, which offers multi award-winning language classes for children aged 0-11 years. Angela provides a hands on and personal support to over 20 franchises in the UK whilst still teaching part time at Newcastle University.
Barry specialises in Crowdfunding, Marketing, IT, Funding and Strategy but has experience across many other fields. He is also the Founder/CEO of TheCrowdFundingCentre.com, AngelRevolutions and The Social Foundation.
Suzanne Hathaway is the Director/Owner of Hathaway Lane Ltd. Her business experience is predominantly in sales and business development but she has touched upon all aspects of a business start-up from marketing to accountancy/finance.
Danny Melia is a Director at Melia and Cheung Limited and holds 15+ years experience assisting in financial aspects of small business operations. He specialises in Cashflow forecasts, VAT, corporate tax, income tax, bookkeeping and setting up business with HMRC.
Joanne specialises in Research Writing and Development, Environmental Health, Leadership and Management in practice to Chartered Management Institute Levels 4&5. She also specialises in Change Management and Project & Budget management.
Mark Suthern is the National Head of Agriculture for Barclays. He specialises in Planning, Marketing, Finance, Business Management and People Leadership. Mark has also mentored for PYBT (Prince’s Youth Business Trust) and has mentored colleagues as well.
Martyn Weller is the Chairman of the York Branch of Federation of Small Businesses and was a director for a £56M turnover national business before starting his own business. He is a Magistrate as well as the Chairman for Disability Action Yorkshire. He specialises in online retail & service organisations.
Paul French owns a business in Digital Media Production and has 40 years of relevant experience. He specialises in Start ups, Business plan preparation, Micro business management and taking concepts from innovation and design to final production.
Philippa Seal is an independent business mentor as well as a small business growth advisor. She specialises in Marketing (both digital and social), start ups, small businesses, profit and loss, freelancers and creative and tech businesses.

Derek McIntyre is the director of Melius Limited. He has held many Senior Managerial positions in Blue Chip Electronics Companies. He has also mentored personnel who have gone on to achieve senior positions in industries from catering to defence.
Jim Kelly spent the majority of his career in a specialist plant as the Managing Director of a £6m turnover company. He has worked in the UK, Ireland and Dubai as well as other countries in the Middle East. He specialises in service and support industries.

Scott was a director of a technology start-up for over 5 years, helping to grow this company from incorporation to over 200 staff during his time there. He left to take on a directorship role at Newcastle Racecourse, where he is currently. His background is in finance, having been big 4 trained, and qualifying into a corporate finance role where he advised numerous businesses.
Carmen’s specialism is referral marketing strategy, networking and training. Sectors in which she has particular expertise are finance, construction and recruitment.She is an international speaker, mentor & trainer, a qualified best practice auditor & has a degree in business studies and marketing.
David has a wealth of experience in the business world. He successfully operated for many years at a senior level in the retail and sales and marketing sectors before moving into management training. David also knows what it takes to start and build a franchise business. He has managed major projects involving groups of franchisees and provided recruitment services for franchisors.
Joy has worked in the enterprise sector for many years, as a lecturer presenting Start-up seminars and as a one-to-one adviser for aspiring owners. She works with many business support organisations on all aspects of self-employment, business start up and business planning. She has also successfully owned and sold 3 businesses.
