My Language Connection is expanding into the Middle East

This milestone is just the first in a series of international moves after founder Victoria Nicol used a Start Up Loan to support her ambitious growth plans

My Language Connection (MLC) is an accredited translation agency, specialising in language services for a range of technical industries.

After receiving a Start Up Loan from Transmit Startups and winning Scottish Edge (the UK’s biggest funding competition) in 2019, the company has seen exceptional growth.

By using a network of over 1,200 native-speaking linguists, MLC provides an end-to-end service focused on quality and a human approach.

Founder and Managing Director at My Language Connection, Victoria Nicol, said:

“We work with clients all over the world across a range of technical industries. This overseas expansion gives us an on-the-ground presence in the UAE, allowing us to develop our existing relationships with Asia-Pacific clients, and opens up new opportunities in key sectors.”

MLC was involved in the COVID Explained campaign in England; a project that involved translating facts, guidelines, real people’s stories and information into simple, easy to read advice in over 12 different languages.

This important work, along with other impactful language projects and partnerships, meant the company thrived rather than survived during the pandemic and Brexit.

MLC increased turnover by 44% in 2022 and is striving to become one of the leading internationally-recognised boutique language service providers for the medical and technical industries.

Victoria said:

“We already have a strong foothold in Dubai, with existing partners in various sectors, such as media and PR. This move will support our projected growth in the medical and technical industries and create in-roads in Oil & Gas, Renewable Energy, and Construction & Engineering, amongst other key sectors.”

As well as the exciting news of the Dubai expansion, MLC spoke to Team Transmit about other accomplishments, including:

  • Reaching a seven-figure turnover after just 5 years in business.

  • Growing to a network of over 1,200 translators worldwide and increasing the Glasgow team by 20% in 2022.

  • Victoria winning Young Entrepreneur of the Year at the Scottish Business Women’s Awards earlier this month.
